Discover the world of zippers with our workshop 'Zippers: Beyond Making to Mastering'. Spanning two hours, this course delves into the multifaceted roles of zippers, exploring their functional and aesthetic significance.

We'll cover the theory behind zippers, including their technical functions, various types and finishes like YKK metal and YKK Excella. You'll learn how to adeptly choose the right zipper for your project, considering both its technical aspects and its potential to enhance your design as an accessory. Our expert guidance will also focus on practical skills, such as shortening zippers or creating custom lengths from a roll, complete with adding, sliders, pullers, start- and end-stops, tailored to your design needs. With a small group setting, you'll receive personalized attention and detailed instruction, leaving the workshop equipped with the knowledge and skills to skillfully incorporate zippers into your design projects.

Please note: This workshop will be uniquely held on January 19 in Germany at Schwarzwaldleinen in Frankfurt am Main and it is also possible to attend through zoom. It will not take place in our store in the Netherlands — don’t miss this unique opportunity!

About the School

Schwarzwaldleinen

Saskia Buschbaum is the founder of Schwarzwaldleinen, a leather goods workshop nestled in the heart of the Black Forest, at the foot of the Feldberg. Inspired by the breathtaking surroundings of waterfalls, the Albschlucht gorge, and lush green mountains, Saskia’s vision blends sustainability, craftsmanship, and the raw power of nature.

With years of experience in crafting small leather goods, Saskia has specialized in creating high-quality dog collars and leashes, honoring the traditional skills of the region where much is still made by hand. Schwarzwaldleinen’s story began in a village of just 600 people, surrounded by pristine landscapes that continue to influence its ethos today.

Saskia also supports her community through her school, offering classes both online and in her atelier, sharing her expertise and fostering a deeper appreciation for traditional leatherworking.
