What is semi-vegetable tanned leather? Tanning is the processing of animal skins into leather. Various methods are used for this, of which chrome tanning is the most common. This tanning method ensures deep colours, soft leather and a durable final product. In addition, it is faster and often cheaper than vegetable tanning. Chromium is sometimes replaced by other, non-heavy metals, or by the metal-free and synthetic glutaraldehyde. Vegetable tanning is a traditional tanning method with natural, antioxidant substances. This usually makes the leather slightly firmer and more sensitive to sunlight. Semi-vegetable tanning combines two tanning methods, with the finish always being vegetable. This gives you the beautiful appearance of vegetable tanned leather, while you also benefit from the properties of other tanning methods.
